A View at West Shores Wedding | Omaha Wedding Photographer
There are weddings where everything comes together beautifully—and then there are weddings where you walk in and immediately realize just how much thought, time, and love went into every single detail.
This wedding at A View at West Shores was definitely one of those days.
From the carefully planned details to the ceremony, portraits, and one heck of a celebration afterward, it was such a fun wedding to photograph. And as an Omaha wedding photographer, these are exactly the days that remind me why I absolutely love what I do.
A Beautiful Wedding at A View at West Shores
A View at West Shores is one of those Omaha-area wedding venues that gives couples so many possibilities for their day.
Having a beautiful space is obviously important, but from a photographer's perspective, I'm always looking at a venue a little differently. I'm watching the light, looking for interesting backgrounds, scouting places for portraits, and figuring out how we can make the location look completely different throughout the day.
Because your wedding gallery shouldn't look like we stood in the same three places for eight hours. 😂
This wedding gave us plenty of opportunities to create beautiful portraits while still allowing the couple to actually enjoy their wedding day.
And that's a pretty big deal to me.
Wedding Photography Should Be More Than Pretty Pictures
Obviously, you want beautiful wedding photos.
We're getting those.
But when I'm photographing a wedding, I'm paying just as much attention to what is happening around the couple as I am to what's happening directly in front of my camera.
Your mom trying not to cry.
Your best friend giving you that look from across the room.
The flower girl who has completely abandoned whatever instructions she was given.
Your grandparents dancing.
Your friends absolutely losing their minds on the dance floor.
The split-second expression on your partner's face when they see you for the first time.
Those are the photographs that become more important as the years go by.
I want you to have the gorgeous portraits you can hang on your wall, but I also want you to open your wedding gallery years from now and find photographs of moments you didn't even know happened.
That's the good stuff.
Natural, Fun & Emotional Omaha Wedding Photography
One of the biggest things couples tell me when they inquire about wedding photography is some version of:
"We're really awkward in pictures."
Perfect. 😂
You don't need to know how to pose. That's my job.
My approach to wedding photography is a combination of guidance when you need it and stepping back when you don't.
I'll help with posing, lighting and locations so you look amazing in your portraits—but I'm not interested in turning your entire wedding into one giant photoshoot.
There are moments when I'll take control and create something beautiful.
And there are moments when the absolute best thing I can do is shut up, back away and let something real happen.
The result is a wedding gallery that includes the beautiful, polished images and all of the laughter, emotion, weirdness, chaos and personality that actually made the day yours.
Your Wedding Doesn't Have to Look Like Everyone Else's
This might be one of my favorite things about photographing weddings.
No two should look exactly alike.
You don't have to recreate whatever is currently trending on Pinterest or TikTok. You don't need to plan your wedding around what photographs well on Instagram.
Bring your personality into it.
Wear the shoes.
Bring the weird sunglasses.
Rent the vintage car.
Sneak away for drinks.
Plan the private vows.
Have the first look—or don't.
Do the giant traditional wedding or invite 20 people and throw one heck of a dinner afterward.
The photographs become so much more meaningful when the wedding actually feels like you.
As your photographer, I want to take whatever you've created and figure out how to photograph it in a way that tells your story.
Choosing an Omaha Wedding Photographer
If you're currently planning an Omaha wedding, there are obviously a LOT of decisions coming your way.
Venue. Dress. Flowers. Catering. DJ. Cake. Guest list.
And approximately 4,782 other things you didn't realize you needed to have an opinion about. 😂
Photography is a little different, though.
After the wedding day is over, the flowers are gone, the food has been eaten, the music stops and everyone goes home.
Your photographs stay.
That's why finding a wedding photographer whose work you love is important—but finding someone whose personality and approach you connect with matters too.
Your photographer is with you for a huge portion of your wedding day.
You should feel comfortable around them.
You should trust them.
And preferably, you should actually like having them there. 😉
Omaha Wedding Photography That Feels Like You
My goal with every wedding I photograph is pretty simple:
Make beautiful photographs without losing the actual experience of the day.
I want the big moments.
I want the tiny ones.
I want the epic portraits, the ridiculous dance-floor photos, the quiet moments nobody else noticed and everything in between.
Because someday your wedding photographs won't just remind you what everything looked like.
They'll remind you what it felt like.
And that's the whole point.
